Typical symptoms of a failing BMW ignition coil are engine misfires, uneven idling, and reduced power output, poorer fuel efficiency, hard starting, illuminated check engine light, and in extreme situations, engine stalling or backfiring.
Common codes for a bad BMW coil are P0300 (random/multiple cylinder misfire) and P035X (ignition coil primary/secondary circuit malfunction, where 'X' is the cylinder number). Other associated codes are P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304.
